BRISTOL BITS: Military contractor Castlesalutes veterans at dinner

Monday, December 17, 2012 10:55 PM EST

George Castle hosted his annual dinner for Bristol veterans and, once again, it was a huge success. The event was held at the American Legion and among the dignitaries ? in no special order ? were Mayor Art Ward, state Reps. Frank Nicastro and Whit Betts and state Sen. Jason Welch, Sgt. Dave Corello, local Legion commander Chuck Woodin and National American Legion Commander Frank Sturgeon, Bristol Veterans Committee Chairman Tim Gamache, vice-chair Gerry Chamberland, F.A.W.V. Post 26 Commander Mark Morin, F.A.Q.W. State Commander Roy Tagget and Korean War Veterans Chairman Jim Bousquet. Others present, just to name a few, included Pete Coppola and Donna Doguin of the Army Strong Community Center;? Adree St. Lawrence, recipient of four Purple Hearts; John and Jane Wright, sons of American Legion/American Legion Riders and Woman?s Auxilliary, respectively; honor guard Commander Bob Coffey, decorated soldier Gil Daniels and Brother Leonard Webster, chaplain.

George Castle opened the event with the following:

?I am pleased to be hosting this dinner to honor all of you in recognition of your military service in the defense of our great country. Three years ago, I was at a military convention with over 500 people, hosted at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala.? I was overtaken and surprised when General Myers singled me and my company out as one of those having a superior product that addressed ergonomic issues, accuracy and durability at a competitive pricing. His comments were heart warming and made me proud. He stated that my products were the example of the technologies needed as we moved into the 21th century.

?The military is now one of my largest customers and my customer base is with the Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard. And that?s why I want to share my success with you, because without you and your sacrifices for our great nation, I would not be hosting this event today. I would not hesitate to go into battle for a second thought with any of you, you?re my brothers and I salute you for your efforts.?

I arrived at the dinner towards the end and saw the room filled to capacity. The food was outstanding and the speakers and presentations, I was told, were heartfelt.
