Hurricane Sandy - Newburgh NY - One Week Later

Newburgh NY was not the worst hit during Hurricane Sandy.?It is hard to imagine from this photo that a Hurricane passed through the area only a few days ago. News reports still paint a very grim picture of the aftermath. Newburgh faired much better than NYC did and is well on the way to recovery.?Many people still have power outages and were victim to fallen trees and extensive property damage. Althought a slow process, things continue getting back to normal in Newburgh NY. Trees are being cut down and removed from lying on top of houses and across public roads.Newburgh NY Waterfront on the Hudson River

Power lines are being detangled and rebuilt with new transformers and supplying much needed power to the anxiously awaiting community. Some neighborhoods are up and running while others remain in the dark. Sandy was selective with her path of devastation and the repairs are tedious. ?The process takes time and being patient is not always easy.Empty gas stations have also been of issue around town.

Gas is critical to our lifestyle and I have seen a few people get a bit panicky with the thought of no way to get around. I did hear that trucks delivering fuel were destined for Newburgh today and that the lines should be easing. Newburgh is definitely NOT at the worst part of the problem, and it seems to be getting better. ?

A cold crisp morning with beautiful views of the Hudson River?Last weekend it was not this pretty. The cleanup continues and people are out as usual. The water that was all over the sidewalks and up to the restaurants has now receded. Enormous amounts of debris have been removed and the waterfront looks pretty much like it did before. One lonely sailboat preserved from the wrath of the storm waits to be relocated for the winter season. The docks will all be removed as always, for the winter and cold weather will be here soon. I am glad to see the sun shining and the water calm. ?
